SPRINGHILL DADS v HIRE-IT (Cup Semi)
by Jazzy

Another huge game and the dads A Team are still on holiday this manager must be due a vote of confidence, soon! Despite all the odds a half decent team was assembled - even the luxury of two goalkeepers, Robbie’s missus gave him the night off.

SPRINGHILL DADS
Les Maros
Tim Hart - Robbie Thorpe - Brian Medway - Tony Pascoe
John Lynch - John Willis - Jason Furness - Martin Kingsbury
Dave Smith - Rob Frisby
Sub; Mal Barton

From the kick-off a hopeful ball was put through for Rob to chase? Against anyones wildest dreams Rob made it, cut inside the defender and coolly placed his shot wide of the keeper and the goal! Rob was again quickly into the action when he dummied a defender before crossing into the box - Dave Smith was millimetres short of converting the chance. Hire-It stepped up and put some pressure on the Dads defence. Tony, John, Tim had to be on top form to protect Les. Jack by-passed the defence with a well executed lob - but Les managed to finger tip it over and then
the corner was driven in.
After about 5 minutes play Jason managed to twist his ankle when he fell after getting a ball in his face. Mal was looking quite content sitting on the touch-line watching the action and was eluctantly dragged into the action.
Jack Frost was through on goal but Les managed to put him off with his version of the hakka. Jack chipped wide- Jack again was through on goal but blasts wide this time. Then In a nice move Rob got a beautiful cross in but managed to miss everyone.
Mal (yes, Mal) with a 30 yard trap almost puts dave Smith through. Tony Pascoe finds himself in the opponents box, gets confused and misses the ball. Some lovely passing from the Dads unfortunately to the opposition.
The Hire-It keeper was looking very cold and managed to persuade Senseless to take over. Robbie delighted the crowd with some Brazilian skill - then slices his clearance for a throw-in. Jack Frost (again) was put away - one on one but misses the tap-in.
A lovely diagonal ball by Jim Allan found ROB FRISBY who put the ball away with a 1 mile an hour pile driver that might have broke the net if it would have reached it.
Another break after a crutial Tim tackle Tony P back-heel out.
A Hire-It cross - Dave almost on the score sheet with an own goal.
Jack Frost another one on one - another miss.
To liven things up, after Mal cut out a cross into the box on his chest, he tries a backward headed own goal but is foiled by Tim on the line.

HALF TIME
DADS 1 - 0 HIRE-IT

The Dads made a spritely start - some proper tackling in mid-field and the ball comes out to Dave Smith who puts ROB FRISBY through to score with an angled shot in off the post with Senseless fixed to the spot safe in the belief that the shot is going wide. 3 seconds later a Hire-It shot hits the cross bar and line ‘a la’ Geoff Hurst, not given! Then, from corner, the cross is planted firmly into the Dads net by one-time-Dad Alan Jones. The Dads are a bit under the cosh, now and Tony is guilty of a blatant hand ball in the box - not given. Hire-It are bemused but too knackered to argue. About now, ace reporter - Jazzy had to visit the little boys room - with the Dads back on the top of their form and controlling the game comfortably. When he got back Hire-It had managed to turn the score over 3 - 2?
Mal was through into the Hire-It half but was forced wide and his cross / shot didn’t quite reach Rob at the far post. After covering that ground he didn’t have enough puff for the cross as well!
Mal was covering every inch of the pitch - unfortunately, none of it anywhere near the ball.
A mazey dribble by Tony and a through ball to Dave (Sharp-Shooter) Smith who missed by miles with his shot Then, in a goal mouth scramble, the ball fell to Mal whose left foot shot went straight
into Bob’s grateful arms.
From no-where a Hire-It cross - flew straight in and Hire-It began arguing amongst themselves about who scored.
A Hire-It back pass and Mal was off his line like a ‘screaming banshee’. In shear terror, Senseless Bob hacks the ball oway but only as far as JOHN WILLIS who, from all of 35 yards out side foots it. It’s in the air - Rob, ‘No, John pass to me!’ It’s still in the air - Rob turns away in disgust. IT’S IN! Then Robbie Thorpe was through he hits it - It’s in the air - It’s in the air - It misses!
Springhill are desperate for the equaliser, now and bombard the Hire-it goal for the last 5 minutes . . . to no avail, b#££#©&s.
